Lets Learn Japanese - A Review Of The Study Course By The Japan Foundation

Let's Learn Japanese is one of the most widely known and used methods for learning the Japanese Language. The series is presented in two additions and was originally aired on television. Each lesson consisted of two main lessons. These on air classes were accompanied by text books which contained vocabulary lists, explanations of grammar, and transcriptions of scenes within the program as well as cultural information on Japan. These books are currently out of print but you can find copies of it online to use.

Let's Learn Japanese – An In Depth Review

Let's Learn Japanese is one of the first videos made to teach English speaking people the Japanese language.  Let's Learn Japans uses a series of skits and interactions to help the view memorize and practice new words and grammatical structures. The series follows the life of Yan, a young architect living and working in Japan. Yan and the Japanese People provides the backdrop for this storyline instruction.

In the second season we get a little bit deeper into the Yan character. Lets Learn Japanese takes a little bit of a darker twist as Yan hopelessly tries to pursue the love of his life. When he fails he heads to drown his sorrows in the wild winter Sea of Japan.  This series brings emotion in and helps people to learn the Japanese language by associating actions with emotion. This clever technique works very well as the viewers end up concerned as to what happens with Yan.

The Let's Learn Japanese series starts with the basic I’m Yan episode and travels all the way to if you’re ever in Japan please stop by. The episodic structure attempts to break down each sentence and try to apply it to different scenarios.

My opinion of Lets Learn Japanese is that it is quite possibly the worst video to learn the Japanese language I have ever seen. The plot is weird, the characters are flat, and the lessons are nearly useless. We’re thinking of singing Beethoven’s ninth? I’m thinking that there are better phrases that I need to know in Japanese. In all honesty a fifteen minute stay at the local Japanese cultural center will teach you way more than this train of drivel ever could. If you do not believe me, go online and look at the information on Lets Learn Japanese for yourself, I’m sure you will be just as disappointed as I was.
